Wedding Ceremony Ideas

If you”re recently engaged, you might be planning your wedding ceremony. While many people tie the knot in a church in front of friends and family, others run off to Las Vegas to get hitched by a man dressed as Elvis!

Your wedding ceremony should reflect the tastes of you and your spouse-to-be. Read on to get wedding ceremony ideas!

The Traditional Wedding Ceremony

In a traditional wedding ceremony, the couple gets married by a priest or preacher in a church. There is a wedding party, including bridesmaids, groomsmen and ushers, and the groom”s family sits on one side of the church while the bride”s family sits on the other.

A traditional wedding ceremony is most often followed by a reception that features food, drinks and dancing. While some couples choose to serve alcohol at a traditional wedding ceremony, others opt to go alcohol-free.

Following the reception, the couple departs and heads to their honeymoon location.

The Traditional Wedding Party

The number of ushers, bridesmaids and groomsmen you have at your wedding is completely up to you, but some people follow these guidelines:

  • You should have one usher for every 50 guests.
  • Groomsmen often double as ushers, so the number of guests is a good indicator of the number of groomsmen you should have.
  • Many couples (not all, mind you) like to have a one-to-one ratio of bridesmaids to groomsmen.

The Destination Wedding

More and more, couples are choosing to go to an exotic location to get hitched. Sometimes the couple goes to the destination alone. At other destination weddings, friends and family are invited to come along.

Popular spots for destination weddings include:

  • Aruba
  • Greece
  • Hawaii
  • Italy
  • Jamaica
  • Paris.

One benefit of a destination wedding is that the location of the ceremony often doubles as the honeymoon spot!

When returning home from a destination wedding, couples often have a party for friends and family who were unable to attend the actual ceremony.

The Vegas Wedding

Couples who don”t want to deal with the stress of planning a wedding often choose to elope in Las Vegas. A Vegas wedding can be a fun and inexpensive way to tie the knot.

If you get married in Vegas, you can choose to say your vows:

  • at the drive-thru wedding chapel
  • in any of a number of wedding chapels
  • in front of an Elvis impersonator.

Often, friends and family members follow the couple to Vegas and participate in the wedding festivities. Not only is The City of Lights a great place for a wedding ceremony, it”s also a great place to have a bachelor or bachelorette party and it makes a fabulous honeymoon destination!

The Informal Wedding

Couples who don”t want all the hassle of planning a traditional wedding often choose to have a more informal wedding. An informal wedding can be held in a friend”s backyard, in a parent”s house or at the couple”s favorite public park.

Informal weddings often let the personality of the couple shine. Many informal ceremonies are followed by potluck receptions, in which friends and family bring dishes of the couple”s favorite foods.
