Reflexology At Home Reflexology And Healing

Reflexology at home is similar to self massage, but the two practices have some differences. The goal of self massage is to reduce stress and muscle tension. Reflexology, on the other hand, uses self massage to stimulate reflex points in the hands and feet.

According to reflexology practitioners, these reflex points connect directly to other areas of the body. Applying pressure to reflex points stimulates proper functioning of the corresponding body part, improving health and relieving unwanted symptoms.

The Link Between Reflexology and Healing

While the exact relationship between reflexology and healing is unknown, reflexology at home may have multiple benefits, including:

  • Backache relief
  • Headache relief
  • Improved energy
  • Increased metabolism
  • Reduced fatigue
  • Relief from menstrual symptoms
  • Stress relief.

Self Foot Reflexology at Home

Self foot reflexology is a simple and non-invasive way to relax and relieve tension. The following are simple instructions for a short self foot reflexology session.

  1. Begin by sitting comfortably with your foot resting on the opposite knee. Interlace your fingers through the toes and gently rotate the foot at the ankle, first in one direction, and then the other. Rotate for about 10 seconds in each direction.
  2. Gently pull the foot back and forwards to stretch the Achilles’ tendon, holding the foot for 10 seconds at the end of each stretch. Then grasp the heel and move it slowly back and forwards.
  3. Using your thumb on the underside of your foot, apply pressure to each toe, beneath the toes and the edge of the heel. Use self massage to knead the foot between your hands.
  4. Make a fist and line your knuckles up with the base of the toes. Apply pressure for 10 seconds. Rotate the fist so the knuckle rests on the outer edge of the foot, applying pressure for another 10 seconds. Do the same with the heel and the inner side of the foot. Finish the reflexology session with a gentle self massage with foot lotion.

Tips for Reflexology at Home

Reflexology and healing at home are for the most part risk free. If you have joint or bone problems, consult a doctor before trying self massage or reflexology. While self foot reflexology requires firm pressure, stop if you feel any pain.
