Mens Skin Care Facial Routine

The perfect men’s skin care routine is different for every man. The right skin care routine depends on what type of skin you have– whether it’s combination skin, dry skin or oily skin. A skin care routine may also need to include acne treatment to produce results. To find the right skin care routine for you, read on.

Men’s Skin Care Assessment

Assessing what type of skin you have is the first step in caring for it. Each type of skin has specific sensitivities and needs specific products to care for it. The most common skin types include:

  • Combination skin: Most people with combination skin have an oily t-zone, across the forehead and down the nose, and dry skin only on the cheeks.
  • Dry skin: This type of skin tends to flake easily, and can become over dry due to the weather or a hot shower.
  • Normal skin/clear skin: This type of skin is clear and even, with no blemishes or red spots.
  • Oily skin: If too much oil is produced in the skin, the skin can become shiny, produce visible pores and have blemishes.

Combination Skin Care Routine

If you have combination skin you may need to change your products frequently, depending on the weather or season. Or you may need to use different types of skin products for different areas of the face. Men with combination skin tend to have dry cheeks. When using a moisturizer, this is where you’ll want to concentrate a thicker based cream. Use a lighter moisturizer, made for those with oily skin on the forehead and chin.

Dry Skin Care Routine

Men with dry skin should use a mild cleanser with cold water and a moisturizer that is alcohol-free, as the alcohol tends to dry the skin out. You’ll want to choose a thicker moisturizer the dryer the skin is, and switch to a lighter moisturizer as the skin becomes less dry.

Oily Skin Care Routine

If you have oily skin, you probably also are dealing with blemishes. Your skin care routine should include an acne treatment. Great products to look for include ingredients such as benzyl peroxide to destroy the bacteria and salicylic acid, which can help unclog the pores.

Men’s Skin Care for all Skin Types

No matter what skin type you have, your skin care routine should include these top five basic products to have your skin looking it’s best:

  • Alcohol free astringent/toner
  • Cleansers for your specific skin type
  • Moisturizers for your specific skin type
  • Shaving cream with aloe
  • Sunscreen with at least a SPF of 15.
