Energy Healing Other Forms

“Energy healing” encompasses a wide range of alternative health care practices, all based on the notion that a universal life force or energy flows throughout and around our bodies. When this energy is blocked, pain, illness and emotional distress ensue. Various kinds of energy healing use different techniques to remove blockages and promote a healthy, balanced energy flow.

Reiki is one well-known form of energy healing, but people all over the world practice many other forms of energy healing, such as Jin Shin Jyutsu, Polarity Therapy and Qigong.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Energy Healing

Jiro Murai revived this ancient Japanese form of energy healing in the early 1900s, and Mary Burmeister introduced it to the West in the 1950s. Unlike other forms of energy healing, Jin Shin Jyutsu utilizes a system of 26 points—or Safety Energy Locks. These Locks, located throughout the body, regulate the flow of energy, and may become blocked.

You can practice Jin Shin Jyutsu on your own or with a trained practitioner. A Jin Shin Jyutsu energy healing session usually lasts about an hour, while a practitioner gently places pressure on a fully-clothed client’s Safety Energy Locks.

Polarity Therapy Energy Healing

Randolph Stone developed Polarity Therapy based on his 60 years of experience as a naturopathic doctor. As a form of energy healing, Polarity Therapy seeks to adjust a client’s electromagnetic field. Practitioners use interviews, gentle touch and observation to determine a client’s energy healing needs.

In a typical Polarity Therapy session, which lasts 60 to 90 minutes, a client lies fully clothed on a massage table. The practitioner uses soft touch, rocking and palpation to adjust the energy imbalances. Advocates say Polarity Therapy may improve posture, relieve pain and reduce stress.

Qigong Energy Healing

This ancient Chinese energy healing practice uses gentle exercises, similar to T’ai Chi, as well as breathing techniques and meditation, to stimulate the body’s energy. In fact, “Qi” means energy and “Gong” means practice.

The simple, gentle, repetitive actions of Qigong energy healing aim to focus the mind and activate the breath. People of all ages may benefit from Qigong energy healing, while standing, sitting or lying down. In terms of health benefits, Qigong energy healing may:

  • Boost the immune system
  • Eliminate toxins
  • Lower heart rate, blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Promote tranquility
  • Reduce pain.

When exploring these, or any other forms of energy healing, note that most practitioners consider Jin Shin Jyutsu, Polarity Therapy and Qigong energy healing to be complementary forms of healing, rather than replacements for medical treatment for serious conditions.
